The
iPad 2 is the latest version of the iPad - a highly portable tablet computer designed for web access, email, music,
movies and other multimedia applications, falling somewhere between a laptop and a smartphone. It shares many features
of the iPhone & iPod Touch but with a much larger display. Like the iPod and iPhone, it only runs applications downloaded
from Apple's App Store but it does come with a full featured web browser (Safari) and email program and a selection
of utilities that enable it to fulfil most people's needs straight out of the box.

Although Apple sometimes refer to the latest iPad range as "iPad 2", the individual models are still referred to as just "iPad" - for example "iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 16GB". This means there is potential for confusion so if you are buying an iPad make sure you know whether it is an iPad 1 or an iPad 2. They look very similar although the iPad 2 is thinner and lighter. One definite way to tell them apart is the camera - there was no camera in any of the iPad 1 models. See our Guide to the iPad for more information.
There are many places you can buy an iPad - the leading internet retailers such as Amazon and eBay are often hard to beat but also an ever increasing number of high street retailers and specialist resellers such as Best Buy and Geeks.com. We have put together an iPad price comparison page checking prices from all these sources to find the best deals for you.
Secondhand can be an attractive option, saving you the initial depreciation that happens as soon as you open the box, and if you buy a fairly new secondhand one, all the manufacturer's warranty will still be in place so you will be fully covered in the event of any faults. eBay is of course one of the best places to find secondhand iPad bargains and we have created a page that searches eBay for you to find the best deals. Our unique filtering system trawls through the eBay database selecting only the most relevant offers and best deals to save you time.
The price of goods at auctions is not fixed - it depends upon how much people are prepared to bid and that's why you can pick up some great deals on both new and used iPads at auction. To give you an idea of what you might pay, here are some completed items so you can see what price they went for:
