iPod Classic - find the best deals on an Apple iPod Classic

What is it?

iPod ClassicThe iPod Classic is the biggest capacity iPod. It's rather old-school in design, operated by a click-wheel rather than a touch screen but if you want massive capacity and robust simple operation then this is the iPod for you. 160GB of storage holds up to 40,000 songs or 25,000 photos or 200 hours of video or a combination of all of them. 36 hours of battery life makes this iPod great for long trips where you want to take your whole music collection rather than just a selection - Apple call this the 'take everything everywhere' iPod. The 2.5" screen and high capacity make this iPod pretty good for watching videos too. The price is getting on for iPod Touch levels so unless you need the massive capacity of the Classic, you might want to consider an iPod Touch instead as it does a lot more.

What do I need to know?

As with all the iPods, there are several different evolutions of the iPod Classic. This was the original iPod (then just called iPod) which was later given the Classic suffix when the other models came out. The latest version is the iPod Classic 6th Generation which came out in September 2009. For more information see our Guide to the iPod range and How to choose the right iPod. If you're planning to use your iPod Classic with a Mac then you'll need to have a Mac capable of running iTunes 10.1 and Mac OS x 10.5.8 or later. On a PC you'll need Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP Home or Professional (SP3) or later.

Where can I buy one?

There are many places you can buy an iPod - the leading internet retailers such as Amazon and eBay are often hard to beat but also an ever increasing number of high street and online retailers also sell the iPod. We have put together an iPod Classic price comparison page checking prices from all these sources to find the best deals for you.

What about a secondhand iPod Classic?

Secondhand can be an attractive option, saving you the initial depreciation that happens as soon as you open the box, and if you buy a fairly new secondhand one, all the manufacturer's warranty will still be in place so you will be fully covered in the event of any faults. If you're prepared to go slightly older, you can often pick up some real bargains with last year's model going for a fraction of it's original price. eBay is of course one of the best places to find secondhand iPod Classic bargains and we have created a page that searches eBay for you to find the best deals. Our unique filtering system trawls through the eBay database selecting only the most relevant offers and best deals to save you time.
